Institution

We have decided to use MGM Studios for our institutions, we have used tubechop to create this piece and it will be used at the start of the teaser trailer.

Basis Of Poster

This is our final poster, our film magazine will be following shortly. We have decided to do our poster in black and white to give a more dark and omnious feel to it. Our inspiration for this was the Godfather poster, because we liked the way it shows contrast and it makes the image stand and out more therefore showing that the character is most important.

Music

I have listened through the music that josh has suggested and have decided that it should be our final choice for our music in the background for our teaser trailer. We have chosen it becuase it is fast and has an upbeat tempo. This means it will keep up with our fast editing and short clips.

Memento chronicles two separate stories of Leonard, an ex-insurance investigator who can no longer build new memories, as he attempts to find the murderer of his wife, which is the last thing he remembers. One story line movies forward in time while the other tells the story backwards revealing more each time - quote from imdb

this movie is a good example of post modern media as the film is set non linear

in linear order the film would play out with first his wife being assulted and raped and he the cracks his skull and suffers from memory loss. lennys wife doesn't beleive him and he gives her too many insulin shots and kills her.

Collective Identity

To what extent do these adverts conform to or subvert traditional gender roles? To what extent do they conform to or subvert traditional gender roles?
Consider textual details (mise en scene, music, voice over etc) in your analysis.

This advert can easily be seen as a sterotypical male advert and it should be. This is because it is targeted a young boys who like toys. It does this in very obvious ways, for example by first appearance the mise en scene everything is green. This is a typical boy colour. Also the voice over is a young teenager male who describes the toy in a very exciting, radio presenting kind of voice which conotes excitement. He uses voices like 'cool' which are usually associated with boys. The most important pice is the editing and special fx. The diting is fast paced and edgy which will jeep the young boys attention. The special fx's make you seem like you have special abilities.

The little pony is clearly fitting in with the typical stereotypes of wat a little girl likes. Its mise en scene has pin in the background and lots of colourful bright images, especially the the ponies are all stereotypes of a little girl. The music in the background is far more relexed and calming and the voice that narrates it is also calm and 'mothery' in my opnion. Finally the special fx are not of action but sparkles and glitter.

Pulp Fiction

In the past couple of weeks we have been watching and trying to analyse 'Pulp Fiction'. This film is about some htimen trying to deliver a suitcase. In its time what was considered extremerly funny but was very contreversial.

Seven Kinds of People

In my opinion by looking at this powerpoint it has made me realise that if i were to make a film or a teaser trailer you need different types of people in order to keep it interesting. The powerpoint talk about different types of people these include:

-The explorer is driven by a need for discovery. They respond to brands that offer new sensations. They will explore the differernt flavours.

-The Aspirer is driven by other people's perception rather than their own opinion. Their core need for life is status so they are drawn to an attractive brand.

-The succeeder has self confidence and tends to be very organised. For brands they would often seek the best becuase that is what they feel they deserve. Their core need for life is control.

-The reformer is very different in comparison to the explorer as they will not buy things just because they are new. The reformer searches for enlightenment.

- The mainstream are the largest group whitin the 4C's. They respond to big established family brands. Their core need for life is security.

- The struggler lives for today and strives on visual and physical sensation. They seek escape.

- The resigned are mostly the older generation who's values have been built up over time. Their brand choices are driven by a need for safety and for economy so they choose what is familier to them.

I have realised by looking at all of these types of people that my characters in my film should be the struggler and the succeeder. These are people that strive to succeed and will do so no matter what. This has also helped me with thinking about my audience. It has given me a insight into what type of people would like to watch my film.

music

Connor, i have found a song on jamendo.com that i think would work well with our film it is a rock/metal track called LukHash (SH music)
Psyche .
See if you like it there are loads of songs that are good but this starts subtle as we wanted it to the kicks in a few seconds after

Poster Research

i have a few ideas for our poster, i think we should use a black and white cover as shown in the godfather poster, this effect makes the audience think that the man in our trailer is mysterious and people are not sure what to expect

organisation

connor i have been in sheffield all weekend and have thought of a few ideas for our poster i think we should do the planning for our poster in the next lesson

music

i am looking at different types of music on a free music website called http://www.jamendo.com/ ive looked at a few of the songs and i think we should change the genre of the music we use on the trailer, i think a rock will song to keep up with the speed of a shots and the genre of our trailer . connor write back and tell me what you think.

To Do List

This week we should mainly start on filming also i think we should

1) Develop our elements research
2) Start Shooting
3) Find our shot locations
4) Develop our music on garage band

lighting

connor ive bin a bit held up last few days and not been able to blog. i think we should look at different lightings for our settings and mess around a bit with the cameras to see what we can do, for example in this video clip you can see james bond in a shadow sitting down, i think we should use the same lighting in our trailer. The lighting plays a key role in our trailer because it shows the audience that our character is mysterious and scary, plus no-one realy knows who he is.

in the figting scenes i think it should be well lit and so the audience can focus on the character and make it seem more lively.

Audience theory

20214022 Audience Research

This is great information on audience theory. I would also like to talk about my target audience in greater detail.

Places

I have been looking at places to shoot parts if our teaser trailer and i have found a room which i can use in my dads factory. It is a empty office room that we could use for our first shot which is our main character sat at a desk with only light on half of his face. I think this room is ideal and will be able to pull of the effect which we are trying to achieve. I will try and take a picture to put on the blog so that you can have a better understanding. Josh i will need to show you it asap get back to me

Storyboard

This is our storyboard, we have decdided to do this as a draft and we may improve upon it and add more shots.

special effects

We have researched different types of special effects programs because in our opinion in order to create a good action teaser trailer it needs special efffects to create a better atmosphere. Our evidence is shown in the clips below:

As you can see even in these short 2 minutes of clips we see a massive range of explosions including explosions, slow motion and various more.

We think that the best way to create special effects to our standard is by using something called effects lab pro. This is a special effects application which can allow you to do a range of things which would be beneficial to our piece. This is demonstarted below :

To Do List

Hi josh i thought if we want to get things organised better and get things done quicker we should make a to do list for this week:

1) Effects Research
2) Finish Storyboard
3) Start to develop our music
4) Research on Places to shoot

props

Connor ive managed to get hold of a ferrari for a shot in our film, i thort we could use a low pan shot to see it driving away should be a good way to attract more people to a film
Josh

Audience research (Levi-Strauss theory)

I have decided to look at Levi-Strauss and his binary code theory. I think that his theory was developed to create the audience on the edge of their seats wanting to find out more. He does this by constatntly creating conflicts or opposites. This will work well because when you change something dramatically people always ask themselves why has this happened and whats goin to happen next. This gives them the incentive to keep onn watching. I would like to try and apply this theory to my piece. I think we could use love and hate well in our film because our film is like a James Bond fiilm which usually means women and fighting. This is where we can show our contrast between love and hate.

Not only can we create contratst in our concepets (love and hate) but we can do this visually. For examples in our teaser trailer we are going to have lots of clips with massive differences in lighting. For example our first shot is a picture of our character completerly in the dark minus half of his face. This then suddenly clips to a man being draggen under flickering light. This contrast would create a mysterious atmosphere and raises lots of questions like why is he being dragged?, where is he being dragged?, thus making our audience want to read on.

Character roles (Propp's theory)

In our trailer we have character roles such as hero and villain. The main character that you will see in our trailer will be the hero as you can see him saving people and fighting against villains, the villain will always struggle against the hero as the hero always wins , there may also be a shot of him with an attractive women this could be related to the theorist as the damsel in distress and the hero is there to save her.

From the film trailer you will be able to recognise the villain visualy because they will look evil, dark and scary. The hero is usually handsome, to attract females to the film.

From this trailer you can see the hero, villains, and damsel in distress,Propps Teory is applied in this trailer and we hope to contain the same theory in our trailer

Music

yh sounds good just ring me and we will make some tunes
Josh

Music

Hi Josh i like your idea about the music and i defineterly agree that it should be fast paced but due to copyrights law we cant use this exact piece. Although i do think it will be quite easy to mimic this type of fast paced music. I think we should do this on my apple imac using garage band. I will make a mock up on wednesday because i've gt work tonight and tommorow night tell me what you think

Connor x

Institution

Our chosen intitution is mgm studios, the main reason for this decision is that mgm has funded and produced many action films such as the 007 films, Robocop and Ronin. we hope to have a clip of the roaring lion at the start of or trailer

Storyboard Analysis

I have also decided to get more ideas into what our shot list should look like so i took a very popular film Casino Royale and analysed it. I foud out that their were vast amounts of varied shouts and these are a few tht i picked up on tht were used a lot. I have realised that in my teaser trailer im going to have a vast amount of shots in different angles.

Webpage Analysis

Another aspect of our piece is to do a webpage for our film. I am doing this aswell as the posters and film magazine research because i have still not decided on which two i definaterly want to do yet. As you can see i have noticed a few key things on the page such as the logo which adds credibility and the mgm newsletter. I think that these are key aspects of a web page because it shows that the page offers variety for hardcore film fanatics as well as just fans.

Poster Analysis

I have also decided to look at some film posters for my research seeming as one of my aims is to create a film poster for my piece. I have noticed that in most of these posters the main character take us most of the space. This conotes that he is very important and it makes you want to watch the film to find out why he is so important. Alsothe text at the bottom of the page anchors tothe image because when you first look at theimage you get a futuristic feel of the poster and you can tell that it is not set in modern day society. Also when we look at the mise en scene in the poster we can see them all wearing leather or dark clothing which conotes that their is something mysterious about themselves and that makes them interesting to the audience. This piec also has an ideology of man being the hero, he simbolises the one hence him standing at the front.

Inspirations

Ive been looking at lots of teaser trailes mainly James Bond and action clips on youtube. Here are a few of the clips ive looked at:

These two clips both show the generic conventions of a action film. We expect to see vilence, sex and quick, fast paced transitions cutting from action to passion. In James Bond we alsways see a good looking male fighting in most of these clips which is the same in bourne ultimatum.

organisation

ok safe and yeah ill do the music mate ill start listening

Organisation

Okay mate ill start on the shot list sugeestions now are you doing the music today?

Connor :)

organisation

Yes that looks good also i think we should look at the soundtrack for our trailer and a shot list
p.s don't worry abouty the story board

music for trailer research

I have looked at a few different artists and and i think ive found the type of music we should add to our film trailer
This song is very fast paced which will go with our action trailer so we hope to create a song which will sound and create the same effect as this song, maybe we could sync our music with the film eg. faster music when there is more action and slow and subtle music at calmer parts like at the start of the trailer

This trailer is very subtle at the start and the music picks up as the action starts happening, this attracts the audience and helps create an atmosphere. i beleive that the music would attract more males to this as it is fast and scary

Magazine Research

I have decided to research film magazine front covers for my coursework because i am i have forgotten to add this to my presentation. It is crucial that i do this because one of my tasks is to create a magazine front cover for my film. Whilst doing this i have noticed many things. For one i have noticed that in all of my covers their is a main character on the front which takes up nearly all of the page. I think this is because most of the magazines would like its audience to concentrate on the character. Also ther is nothing else on the front cover on most other than a title so that nothing else can distract you from the image because the image is key to enticing the reader in.

Organisation

Hi josh i was thinking that the main areas we should cover betweeners should be:
1) Ideas
2) Representation
3) Research (Magazine Cover)

Do you have anything else to suggest?
P.S Sorry i about the Storyboard we will startr it tommorow

Our Powerpoint

This is our power point which we created to pitch our idea. It shows our research and inspirations in order to create our teaser trailer.

M.I: Resolution

This is our first blog for our new project. We are doing one blog between us both . We have decided to do project 2. It is a promo-package for a new film. It has to be a teaser trailer which lasts about 1 minute and it will also consist of a poster and a film magazine front cover. We have decided to do a action film and it will be based on James Bond.

June 24th 2009-Today we have thought of some shot lists and here they are:

Institutions – mgm lion and Columbia Numbered List
Start opening scene body dragging dark room camera follows then drops
Cut into dark scene see main character and voice over
Then cut into action throwing on floor fighting
Cut back to man in dark room
Then see actors face with gun pointing at some one silenced pistol down barrel says his name
This is only a few of them and only a starting idea but they do need a lot more work added to them to make it seem more realistic such as explosions and more effects. Also we have started our presentation and have decided upon a plot. But due to it being a teaser trailer you cant really have a full idea of the film or else their would be nothing for the audience to watch. I have also started my research into my how teaser trailers and posters are made in order for them to grab the audiences attention.

this is the type of shots we want to do explosions maybe a possible thing to do but it will be very hard. we have looked at different trailers and are discussing the types of action we can involve within the teaser, fast editing and short filming must be done to make the film attractive for the audience and full of action so they are kept entertained
